Police in Canada have announced they have solved the cold case murder of a teenage girl after more than five decades thanks to advanced forensic analysis techniques.

Yvonne Leroux was just 16 when she was last seen leaving an appointment at a youth counselling clinic near what was then the York Finch General Hospital on November 29th 1972.

She subsequently vanished, and it wasn’t until the following day that her battered body was found nearly 15 miles away in King Township between Jane and Keele streets.

Although an autopsy revealed she had died from extensive blunt force trauma to the head, no murder weapon was found at the snowy crime scene and no further leads could be recovered.

There was speculation locally that Yvonne may have been murdered by outlaw bikers, as she had reportedly told her mother shortly before her death that she had become mixed up in a gang and had refused to run drugs for them. As a result, her home had been placed under police protection — but this sadly had not extended to Yvonne herself.
