Fun Crafts Under $30 to Learn This Weekend
Looking to learn something simple without blowing your wallet? The Verlocal Design Fest has brought together some of Singapore’s local artisans to give you a taster class for 30 mins under $30!
Create your own Colourful Jewellery with Resin
Not all pendants have to be made from gems! Make your own jewellery into the shape you like using resin, a plant based substance that hardens into any mould you like. When fossilised, resin also turns into amber, but why wait that long for a semi precious stone that turns orange when you have a wide variety of colours to work with?
If you’re thinking of getting something bigger, the class also has an option to ask for bigger moulds too.
Make Cute Miniature Characters with Clay
Ever wanted to make those cute Tsum Tsum figurines but never got started? Here’s your chance to do it at Kin’s Miniatures’ workshop! In addition to making realistic miniature foods, Kin Quek has worked with big name clients like Disney to bring their characters into life as a 3D sculpture, so be rest assured that you are in good hands in this hands-on workshop.
Shrink Clear Plastic Sheets to Make Your Own Charms
More commonly known as Shrinky Dinks across the Pacific, making your own charms can be cost effective by heat shrinking plastic sheets.
Let the sisterly duo, Salinah and Aisah of Simply for Love, guide you in this short workshop before taking home a design of your own. If you’re drawing up blank for your design, they provide templates during the workshop so you won’t have to walk away empty-handed.
Nurture your Green Thumb with Terrarium Design
Some plants require constant TLC in order to bloom, but terrariums make it easy for others who are short on time. Closed terrariums allow a little water cycle to take place so that you don’t have to water your plants all the time!
Join The Mystic Gardens’ activity in creating your own terrarium so that you can brighten up your office or living room!
Make a Stylish Accessory with Button Knots
Have you wondered about how those button knots on qipao and samfus were done? Wearable Craft will be teaching you various Chinese knots to accessorise yourself with! From making keychains to necklaces, these knots will add a touch of colour to whatever outfit you have.
