The Problem Statement

The Microsoft Dynamics 365Data Export Service (DES) is used for exporting data from Dataverse to Azure SQL Store. Organisations use DES to build the reporting capability on the top of Dynamics 365 / Dataverse data. This service is getting deprecated and will reach end of support and end of life in November 2022. This will present a problem to any existing customers using this service to export their data from Dataverse.

The Solution

Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse is a great alternative to the DES to export data from Dataverse. It also supports running AI & machine learning, integration with external datasets and slicing and dicing large volumes of Dataverse data. We can speed up time to insights using the Azure Synapse link for Dataverse as it is built-in and available out of the box. It can be used to continuously export data from Dataverse to Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.

Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse service provisions initial and incremental writes for table data & metadata. Any data or metadata changes in Dataverse are automatically pushed to the Azure Synapse meta store and Azure Data Lake Storage, depending on the configuration, with no extra steps. This is a push operation. Changes are pushed to the destination without the need for any manual intervention.

Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse facilitates the below features –

· Continuous export of tables to Azure Synapse Analytics and/or Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2. This includes both standard and custom tables with creating/update/delete operations.

· Serverless data lake exploration, integration with external sources and processing in Azure Synapse Analytics

· Linking/Delinking of Dataverse to Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2

· Custom forecast prediction over exported Dataverse data using Azure Synapse Analytics in-built AI integration.

· Analysis of exported Dataverse data using familiar tools like T-SQL within Azure Synapse Analytics. Additionally, analysis can also be carried out using Apache Spark.

· Use of Power BI Dashboards and reports to get insights from the exported Dataverse data

At Version 1, we have Azure specialists who can help with migrating from Dynamics 365 Data Export Service (DES) to Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse.
