Let the Games Begin — Building Customer Relationships in a Virtual Setting

One thing many people have missed over the last few months is face to face interactions. You cannot let this deter you when building relationships with customers that you will be working closely with. For that reason, we recently held a Virtual Event with people attending from both Version 1 and Harrow Council. You can find our recent announcement on being awarded a Key IT Support Contract with Harrow Council here.

To help aid building the relationships between the teams we looked to do something that would bring them together that was fun and not work-related. There are so many different options for virtual events out there it is difficult to choose which is the right one for you and which company to work with for it. We opted to go for a Virtual Escape Room because this allowed it to be inclusive for everyone and only needed minimal requirements from everyone attending — a computer and a mobile.

The evening started with everyone joining a call together where the game was explained to them and what they needed to do. They were then split into smaller teams that were mixed between Version 1 and Harrow Council Employees. This is where competitiveness came in and it was time to let the games begin.

Everyone downloaded a mobile app that came with the game and had to select their team captains. Using the camera in the app participants needed to scan the images that were provided on a webpage to then help them get the questions and clues that needed answering. They had to progress through three stages of the Virtual Escape Room while needing to successfully complete a series of questions and challenges along the way.

This was a very intuitive easy to use platform that kept the teams engaged but allowed them to have fun along the way. After the game was finished and the winners were announced everyone could stay on the call as a whole group to allow for further conversations to continue getting to know each other.

Building relationships with customers you will be working with is always a vital step in creating a good working environment, but it is even more critical when you’re working remotely and the individuals in the project have never met each other. This event allowed us to start building these relationships prior to Version 1 taking over the service in November 2020.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting this event and are looking forward to working with everyone at Harrow Council!

We went through AOK Events for this Virtual Escape Room. I’d be interested to know what other ways you are building relationships with customers virtually!
