Launched in June 2019, the One Zero One podcast is a technology podcast from Version 1 which seeks to inspire a series of conversations with some of the leading technology experts and trailblazers in the UK and Ireland.

The podcast aims to encourage listeners to join Version 1 in learning from our peers in technology, with our guests sharing their ideas, experiences and some of the important lessons they’ve learned along the way. As of November 2019, we’ve released 9 podcasts for listeners, on all major platforms including Audioboom, Apple Podcasts, Deezer, Google Podcasts and Spotify.

As an innovative company from our inception, Version 1 embraces the ability to make a difference through technology and innovation. The One Zero One podcast was created as we wanted to continue learning from others about how innovation is shaping the technology industry and discover how our peers are implementing the latest, emerging technologies. With a heavy focus on technology and innovation, the topics on the One Zero One podcast to date have included Serverless, AI, Data Ethics and the Killer Robot Campaigns.

The podcast piloted with John Beckett, CEO & Co-Founder of ChannelSight. ChannelSight is an innovative company aiming to craft the future of shopping, partnering with brands, publishers and broadcasters to generate incremental revenue by making all digital content ‘shoppable’. Within this podcast, John shares his stories and insights with Version 1’s Roisin Healy, including his thoughts on running a high growth venture-backed business and the importance of innovation for a SaaS e-commerce platform.

“My advice for anyone trying to succeed with an innovative idea or a new venture is to get out there and talk to people. A lot of people protect their ideas, not talking about them or they try to get people to sign NDAs. If your idea is really genuinely good, it’s highly unlikely that it’s going to be so important for you to protect that idea that you can’t even talk about it.”

Our latest podcast spoke to Laura Nolan about the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, a growing coalition of 129 international, regional, and national non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in 60 countries that is working to ban fully autonomous weapons. We spoke to Laura about the ethical implications of the technology industry and found out why she believes that AI-powered machines are unsuitable for ever being involved in determining the appropriate use of force.

Our podcast isn’t limited to just solo guests — in Episode #6, we spoke to William Conaghan and Lizzy Hayashida, the founders of growing start-up Change Donations. A micro-donations platform with the mission of connecting everyday philanthropists with good causes, we spoke to William and Lizzy about the start-up and development process of the platform, with our guests sharing some very candid and interesting learnings from running a start-up.

“Millennials have less disposable income, but they are very socially conscious and really do want to give back. Our whole idea is that we would love to offer donors a way to give back within their means in a really flexible and transparent way, so we are targeting that millennial generation and trying to bring charities into the digital age.”

For Episode #8, in association with the Analytics Institute, we brought together perspectives from academia, media, and industry to discuss the challenges of responsible data science in the age of the algorithm. Recorded live, Ronan Laffan, Head of Advisory Services, Version 1 hosted this special episode featured a panel of experts having an in-depth discussion around Data Ethics and what they felt is of importance for businesses, professionals and individuals to consider when it comes to utilising emerging technologies.
