I think the world is learning new things in these challenging times. The trauma of the coronavirus pandemic has brought out the best in us. Here in the UK we’ve supported and praised our amazing health service workers, we’re learning about the damage that not buying from the high street has had on our economy, jobs and society, we’re building stronger relationships with our neighbours and, for some, we met our neighbours for the first time. Why have we learned so much? I think it’s because we all share something in common.

We’re all affected in some way by the effects of the pandemic. When times are tough, sharing with others brings support, encouragement, strength and collective wisdom. We’ve learned the value of human contact — why? Because it is absent due to lockdown rules. For some, working at home has been good; for others, it’s brought isolation and loneliness. The world needs people who know they need other people.

PS Admins at the Oracle PeopleSoft SIG (Bangalore)— Feb 2020

Meeting people who share a common interest is one of the things I’ve missed most in working through lockdown since March. I’ve missed meeting up with work colleagues, customers and of course family and friends. So far this year I would have flown to the USA to attend the annual PeopleSoft Partner Summit, taken a trip to India to attend the AIOUG Yatra conference, flown to Pune to spend time with our brilliant Cedar Consulting team and met up with the PeopleSoft community at the annual OpenWorld conference. I would also be preparing to meet up with many PeopleSoft users at the annual Version1 Oracle Applications Day. It would probably have been in London at some swanky venue with posh nosh and loads of space to chat, share and catch up on the latest Oracle news and talk about value-adding PeopleSoft innovations.

But, for now, at least, we’ll have to make do with virtual events and our Oracle Applications Day 2020 will also be virtual. But, if you carve out time for this event I hope you’ll not only learn some new things but also get a chance to be inspired and encouraged to do more with PeopleSoft and Oracle technology to generate more value for your organisation.

Let me share 3 things ahead of this popular annual event:

1.Event Mapping is pretty awesome. Here’s a screenshot of one of our Cedar internal PeopleSoft systems and a few simple Event Mapping enabled branding additions have made a dramatic impact on how this looks

Fluid homepages are JUST components. In other words, they really are no different to pretty much any other PeopleSoft page. Did you know the set of Tiles you see is just a grid on a page? If it’s a grid then we can manipulate it with PeopleCode. And, with Event Mapping and custom Theme Macro Sets we can do more.

Look at this. These are still Tiles. Just styled slightly differently. Want to see more? Attend our afternoon session on Innovations in PeopleSoft Branding: Why The User Interface Matters.

2. Since Oracle OpenWorld last year we have heard a lot about Kibana. You’ll hear a lot more about the value Kibana can create for your organisation. Do you want to get your hands on Kibana to learn and experiment? You could use Cloud Manager. Want to know how to get started with Cloud Manager? 3.Security has always been at the top of our list of things to focus on. The pandemic has seen millions of people suddenly having to work from home away from their usual office locations. IT departments have had to rapidly increase remote working capacity, introduce new VPNs, firewalls, onboard new starters and still keep enterprise applications and data secure. A good approach to systems security is a multi-layered approach. (Read more here from one of our trusted partners and PeopleSoft security specialist, Appsian )

Who’s watching your PeopleSoft system?

One layer in this approach to security is your PeopleSoft application itself and I’ll be sharing a few top tips on things you can do to help keep data secure in PeopleSoft along with some insights from Appsian into systems monitoring.

Oracle Applications Day 2020

All PeopleSoft customers can register for this free event. We’ve been running the PeopleSoft Apps day for over 10 years now and it’s always popular. This time, because it’s virtual, anyone and everyone from your organisation can attend. Hope to see you there!
