Cambridge Journal of Eurasian Studies publishes its first paper
I am excited to introduce our first published paper in Cambridge Journal of Eurasian Studies: ‘Divided we fall…or rise? Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border dilemma’ by Dr. Anna Matveeva.
This paper addresses the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border as one of the last undefined frontiers in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Dr Matveeva examines the uncertainties around the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border against a range of issues, including the two countries divergent development trajectories, the loss of a common language in the border regions, the expansion of the Eurasian Economic Union and the border as a symbol of nationhood and as a justification of security regimes.
The tensions at the border are not new, but as more people participate in them, the events there have begun to acquire wider national resonance. Matveeva’s research highlights the real danger that small disputes could escalate and how the current mechanisms of coping with the risks are insufficient.
This work is an excellent example of the research exploring the social, economic, political and cultural processes evolving in Eurasia that we will be publishing in Cambridge Journal of Eurasian Studies. You can sign up to be alerted to all further research published in the journal here.
The journal will publish papers on Eurasia with the aim of creating a more inclusive and holistic perspective to deepen the understanding of the region. You can submit suitable articles for consideration in the journal here.
I look forward to reading your papers with interest.
