Societies, libraries and university departments are vital, central, parts of the research community. Increasingly, when looking at ways to contribute to their research communities and develop their research fields, these groups want to create sustainable, accessible, and discoverable journals of their own.

In order to help them do this, we have launched Veruscript Partner Journals and Presses. This programme gives anyone a new, affordable way to run their own open access journals or presses. Veruscript was launched to help the community and we think this will level the playing field for people looking for a low-cost way to provide journals to their communities.

What are Veruscript Partner Journals and Presses?

Veruscript Partner Journals and Presses are wholly owned by our partners and publish at low cost; the basic cost is just £300 per article. This can be covered by the owners or by leveraging an article processing charge (APC) on authors. The APC can be set at any price, with the owners keeping any additional revenue. So if a society or institution would like to use an open access journal to support their other activities, this is an ideal way to do so.

We take care of the infrastructure and nitty-gritty of the actual publishing process, allowing our partner to focus on the task of building the journal and helping the community.

Veruscript looks after:

  • Publishing platform
  • Production services
  • Editorial management system
  • DOIs
  • Indexing
  • Archiving
  • APC collection

Our partners take care of:

  • Management of the submissions and peer reviews
  • Building editorial contacts
  • Promoting the journal to their field

We are happy to tailor our service to individual needs, including (but not limited to) providing marketing, translation services, press releases, custom websites and reviewer rewards. The cost of these depends on our partners’ requirements, so if you are interested in any of these options then just get in touch.

Why Publish Your Own Journal?

There are a huge range of benefits to starting your own journal or press, it allows you to:

  • Offer free open access publications to members
  • Launch specialist journals of little interest to big commercial publishers
  • Disseminate work to a broader audience
  • Publish research without paywalls
  • Experiment with new formats
  • Fulfil HEFCE mandates
  • Support your researchers
  • Fulfil missions of dissemination and outreach
  • Offer internships and training
  • Build your reputation

We think that starting your own journal is a positive and progressive step that can help your researchers, members, and the wider community. We hope this program will offer research communities an option to publish in a way that is visible, discoverable and impactful. We also welcome any feedback on our models, prices and offers. If there is something your group, society or institution would like to do that we don’t offer, just let us know.
