General Questions

What is Vetted?

Vetted is a social network where you can recommend or “Vett” your favorite folks and places.

Why should I Vett folks and places?

By Vetting your favorite engineer, plumber, or single friend, you’re opening up the possibility for them to improve their lives by being exposed to your personal network. Your recommendation may lead to their next job/project or relationship.

I’m wicked awesome! How do I get folks to Vett me?

Easy! Simply tap the “Get Vetted” button and choose from whom you’d like to request a Vett.

Wait a minute! How do I keep folks from saying untrue or hurful things about me?

Great question! Like Grandma used to say, ‘if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’ We built this app to recommend your favorite folks and places. There is no room for negative sentiment. Consequently, only the recipient can approve and publish the Vett.

Well then, if only the recipient can publish it, how do you ensure it’s credible? Can’t they just say whatever they want?

Another great question! No, only the author can make edits. We believe the ‘only authors can edit and only recipients can publish’ model is the only way to get trusted recommendations without the negativity problems other apps face.

How does Vetted differ from recommendations on LinkedIn?

There is no denying LinkedIn is a great tool for professional networking. However, there are some key differences between being recommended there and being Vetted:

  • With LinkedIn, a hiring manager only sees your recommendations when they view your profile. You’re likely already in the interview process at that point.
  • With Linkedin, a hiring manager won’t typically know the folks that have recommended the candidate, so the recommendations will have limited value.
  • With Vetted, your recommendation is shared with the author’s network. This sharing enables discovery of your talents, even if you’re not in the interview process.
  • With Vetted, the recommendation comes from someone they know, adding signiificant value.
  • With Vetted, the hiring manager can also contact the author, again someone they know, before reaching out to the candidate.

Vetted is a more trusted and accountable way for folks to discover talent.

How does Vetted differ from Yelp?

The problem with yelp is that you have to be looking for something, e.g. you’re hungry for a burger. With us, you can discover recommendations from your personal network at any time. Similarly to the LinkedIn example above, folks will take notice of your favorite places based on your recommendations that they will have access to. If they trust your opinion, they will take more confidence in the recommendation (plus they could always ask you about it directly)

Is this another dangerous rating app like Peeple, Lulu, and others?

Absolutely not. Each recommendation has to be approved by the recipient for it to be published. We’re not ‘rating’ folks here. We are only Vetting those who we would normally endorse. We also have no misguided ‘truth license’.

Questions about Using Vetted

How do I login?

Once you download the app from the app store and open it, you’re invited to login with Facebook. This will automatically create a profile for you on Vetted.

Can I edit my profile?

Initially your profile is based on your Facebook account. However, you can edit your Vetted profile in the app settings. These edits are separate from Facebook and are not synced back to your Facebook profile.

Can I manage my Facebook business pages on Vetted?

Yes! You can switch to your business page in the app settings and then perform all actions in the app as that page. All of these actions work independent of your main Vetted profile.

Can I delete a Vett?

Yes, you can only delete Vetts in which you’re directly involved (ones that you’ve written or ones that were written about you.)

Can I filter the list of Vetts by category?

Yes, there is a filter on the top right corner of the Vett lists that you can toggle between ‘All’, ‘Business’, ‘Professional’, ‘Social’, and ‘Romantic’.

What happens when I decline a Vett? Does it disappear for good?

Yes. We do not keep any declined Vetts. They are completely deleted once they have been declined.

How does posting to Facebook or LinkedIn work?

Once you approve a Vett, you will be asked if you’d like to post it to your Facebook and/or LinkedIn account. If you do, it will appear as a status update, tagging both you and the person who Vetted you. This will expose the Vett to both your network and their network for maximum visibility.
