Celebrate the season with the first chapter of the renowned Ice Sword saga, written by Massimo de Vita, featuring Mickey & Friends! A terrible menace is threatening the land of Argaar and only a true hero can defeat it by unlocking the secret Sword of Ice. But when a wayward wizard seeks out such a champion, he accidently gets Mickey Mouse and Goofy! However, our heroes are up for the challenge and soon they have to face royal giants, incredible dragons, and overwhelming dangers — but guess what? A slippery, sparkly, and striking rainbow awaits them!
Vintage/Main Cover
This is the very first cover of the Topolino weekly magazine that included episodes of the Ice Sword Saga. The first comic stories were released in Italy in 1982 and the great cover illustration created by Italian artist Marco Rota communicates the mood of the story perfectly thanks to the dynamic pose used for Mickey, the mysterious shape of the villain coming out of the darkness and the lighting used to drive the attention to the sword.
Gold/Trilogy Variant
After the success of Mickey Mouse and the Ice Sword, two more chapters were published and the Ice Sword became a saga! The three chapters of the series were collected for the first time in Italy in 1989 in a special volume featuring an original illustration from the main author Massimo de Vita. The new cover design felt so special that in some countries it has been printed on shining, golden paper.
Italian Variant
On this cover, of all of the main characters enclosed in the golden circle, Goofy is the star. Even though the story is called Mickey Mouse and the Ice Sword, by now readers have gathered that thanks to his unusual wisdom and natural skepticism Goofy is the real protagonist of the saga.
Blue/Platinum/New Italian Variant
Drawn by Andrea Freccero, this cover has been colored by Italian artist Mario Perrotta. This new variant cover stands out from other Ice Sword saga covers because, if we look hard enough, we can see one of the characters of the story, an elf, peeking out from behind the original group!
Ultimate Variant
This cover, drawn by Andrea Freccero and colored by Andrea Cagol, is the perfect synthesis of all elements of the fantasy adventure Mickey and Goofy go on in search of the secret of the Sword of Ice. This art piece portrays the most iconic characters of the story next to the secondary characters that Mickey and Goofy meet during their adventure. The illustrated scene is inspired by the end of the story when our heroes, after facing overwhelming dangers and incredible obstacles, finally accomplish their mission.
