VeVe OG Collectibles

It was October 15, 2020- a tumultuous year for many- whose lives were about to change before their very eyes. A hero that many didn’t know they needed was about to take the first brave step into a new digital world…

Enter Batman Black and White #100. Not only was this Series 1 release of Batman Black and White the very first collectible to be released on Veve, but it also signaled a turning point in the industry as this became the First Appearance of Batman, ever, as a premium digital collectible.

Based on the art of Todd McFarlane and sculpted by Jonathan Matthews, this limited edition DC collectible would sell out on VeVe only mere months later, along with every other collectible available.

Season 1 Collectible Releases on VeVe

Throughout season 1, we have also seen many other world-first collectible releases:

  • DC Bombshells Big Barda and Starfire
  • Universal Ghostbusters Series 1
  • DC’s Harley Quinn Black White and Red Series 1
  • Tsuburaya Ultraman Series 1
  • Universal Studio’s Back To The Future Delorean Time Machine
  • Cryptozoic Cryptkins series 1

We have also seen some special releases on the platform, including the first 2D comic cover art from Tsuburaya’s The Rise of Ultraman series 1, and the first collaboration to be released on VeVe, the Ghostbusters secret-rare gold Mooglie, in partnership with Toy Tokyo.

The final drop for season 1, taking place May 13th, was another premier release on VeVe, showcasing the artistic stylings and creations of tokidoki artist and co-founder Simone Legno. Dragon Girl sold out in less than 15 minutes, and this stunning piece features the iconic ‘mystery girl’ found in many of Simone’s painted artworks, enveloped by a beautifully designed Asian dragon.

Why Are Seasons Important?

We are constantly welcoming new collectors to VeVe, and grouping collectible releases into seasons is set to become an essential part of a VeVe collector's identity. Your first-ever VeVe collectible is not just something to cherish; it pinpoints that special moment in time when you started your digital collection. Of course, being able to own a slice of this history pie also comes with endless bragging rights 🏅

Over the past six months, we have also trialed and tested a number of releases, edition numbers, and other mechanisms to truly understand how you- our fans- love to interact with the platform and the collectibles. And just like their physical collectible counterparts, the season 1 or OG VeVe collectibles also stand to be some of the most sought-after items on the platform.

In season 2, we’re stepping things up a notch, working with AAA design studios to bring you an even more impressive array of digital collectibles, more detail, more interactivity, new features, and of course, offering never-before-seen digital products. If you’re lucky we might even give you some season sneak peeks as the VeVe story continues to evolve 😉

For anyone who has joined us more recently, you now have a fantastic opportunity to start fresh with season 2 and really build out your collection!

What About Slimer, the Ghost Trap, and Edo?!

Ahhhh, very astute of you, aspiring Master Collector. There are indeed some season 1 collectibles that are yet to be released. Stay tuned, gentle friends; these secretive collectibles will make an appearance at some point…
