Water may not be the solution to our thirst

The common cold is an ailment that a responsible doctor will not prescribe any antibiotic for us. Our doctors may tell us to drink more water and take more rest at home. However, we will have a problem with intaking more water; especially for children.

The problem is: even though we are thirsty, we don’t want to drink water because it usually occurs that we will have a bitter taste in our mouth. Luckily, there are some ingredients in the kitchen that will be helpful.

These ingredients are usually prepared in our kitchen. And these simple drinks are having functions for soothing sore throat and coughing, relieving thirst, and expelling coldness of the common cold.

  • The sweet & sour taste can cover up the bitter taste during a common cold; and thus, we could enjoy intaking more fluid for our body.
  • It relieves our thirst.
  • A lot of minerals and vitamins in lemon and honey.
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine usually uses honey to soothe a sore throat, moisten lungs to stop coughing, and moisten large intestines to improve bowel movement (Penner, 2022).
  • In addition, it is important that we put honey in the drink when the temperature has been cool down under 70 degrees Celsius. Otherwise it’s nutritious would be spoiled.

Ginger, Lemon & Honey Tea is good for expelling cold symptoms

  • Ginger is a popular herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine for expelling coldness (Wind-Cold syndrome) (Penner, 2022).
  • It warms up our body by promoting our circulation system.
  • It comforts our stomach to stop nausea and vomiting.
  • However, for people with infection and inflammation (Heat syndrome). Ginger is needed to be used with caution.

Other herbs we can use in our kitchen

  • Garlic: cook garlic in our meals.
  • Onion: make onion soup or cook it in our meals.

Conclusion

When we have a common cold, we may refuse to drink more water because of the bitter taste in our mouths; especially for children. Luckily, lemon, honey, and ginger drinks will be a good option for us. As well as these ingredients are effective in relieving signs and symptoms of the common cold, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.
