The voices were selected to reflect the character’s fluency in the New web. The senior Millennial, Juve 1000, has the most mechanical voice. Young New web users, Christine and Simon, have mechanical voices modified to sound more human. The Khan Academy representative has the most human-like voice.

Visual emphasis in certain texts are used to communicate the emotional tone of the text, which the mechanical voices can’t describe. However, voices also communicate emotional states by mimicking laughter and clicking of the tongue. Appearing tags are link of information to the certain texts such as web links, unfamiliar vocabularies. Acronyms are written as acronyms and heard in full words.
