England: Bathing in Bath

When in Bath, visit the Roman Baths. It’s a surprisingly large historic site with loads to learn and visuals recreating scenes from ancient Roman life throughout the multi-level attraction. We could have spent another hour there if we had listened to every single one of the audio guide posts, but the sites of the ruins all around us was enough to keep us busy exploring and selectively listening to the most interesting posts.

Bath is the second most visited city in England, so it was pretty crowded, but it was still very beautiful with its ancient buildings in the main square and along many of the side streets. And true to European standards, it has romanesque bridges and a scenic river flowing through the city.

Another fun fact is that the town is full of homages to Jane Austen, who was inspired by the city and set many of her stories in this locale. I had to pop over to the bookstore to get one of her novels, and then sit quietly reading in the coffee shop across the street. It was brilliant!
