England: Stonehenge at Sunrise
We woke up at 4:18 am — our preferred wake up time to see Stonehenge at dawn! The place normally doesn’t open until 6:30 am for paid tour groups and 8 am for general admission. However, I found that you could book a visit to the Inner Circle at dawn or dusk by submitting a request months in advance online. Sunrise seemed like the best option, and we were lucky enough to have decent weather (for England) that morning. We were with about 30 people and got some of the best shots of the monument with the fog rolling over the adjacent hillsides giving it an mystical glow. The scene was made even more special by a woman in our tour group that busted out a possibly Celtic flute and playing a melodic tune just as the sun was rising above the clouds. Couple that to the moon still in sight in direct opposition to the rising sun, and the experience was nothing short of magical.
