Switzerland: The Matterhorn Mountain in Zermatt

Not the Disneyland ride that we all know and love, but the actual mountain itself towered over us at 14,700 feet when we arrived in Zermatt. After a long drive to Täsch, we had to park there and then take the train up because no cars are allowed in Zermatt. Even though we were at such a high elevation, the heat of the summer was still beating down on us, so a hike was out of the question.

Unfortunately for us, our image of this beautiful snowcapped mountain was shattered because she was bone-dry! She looked more like a pyramid and less like the frosty peak we had imagined. This can be explained by an unprecedented heatwave rolling through Europe this summer with off-the-chart temperatures. Thanks climate change!

Naked as she was without all her frosting, the Matterhorn Mountain was still very beautiful. After walking along the river quay, she peaks out from the town’s edge.
