Pascale Kutner: A Boundary Breaking Pioneer
And Her Creative Breakthroughs You Won’t Want To Miss
By JENNIFER REYNOLDS
London-born artist Pascale Kutner not only has a varied heritage but also has taken an extraordinary path in the art world. Now living in Les Cabannes, right beside the ancient town of Cordes sur Ciel, she has French, Belgian, and Italian heritage,
Self-taught Kutner is a truly boundary-breaking pioneer, painting extraordinary canvasses—or should I say ‘sheets’—of explosive and complex art. She was first inspired in 1991 by Garton Chaissac, a female artist from Avignon.
Kutner began her artistic journey creating sculptures using driftwood, then progressed to light forms and is now an accomplished painter. It was from the latter that she found her true art form through painting old linen sheets rather than traditional canvas to carry her bold gestures and forms.
A phase on her journey arrived after a serendipitous encounter during Covid lockdowns. Pascale reached out to her local community by painting uplifting street art in open community spaces, starting in Les Cabannes and later reaching Gaillac then Albi. These street exhibitions attracted a television crew, which led to even more recognition and a wider audience.
Now painting in bold, abstract, black-and-white forms, she conveys her emotions with fluid brushstrokes, mapping out an entirely new world. You can feel Pascale's boundless energy emanating from the large-format works.
She has exhibited internationally, including in New York and, more recently, at L’Art prend l’aiR in Place Rigaud, Perpignan. She can be found at her studio, surrounded by her stunning canvasses.
