Dating! You know what it’s like.

Whether you love it or hate it, you’ve probably done it at least once before. Even if it was just a tea party with your cat. Who left.

Choosing where to go on a date can be pretty damn difficult. What if your date doesn’t like what you choose? What if you take them to a cheese factory and they’re lactose intolerant? How did you even find a cheese factory in the first place (take me there, please)?!

Of course, the second crucial component is choosing the right person. What if they turn out to be crazy? What if they insist on yelling YOLO every time you ask if they want to do something? What if they set their hair on fire?

Lastly, the timing must be impeccable.

Here are some helpful dating tips from our date experts that’ll ensure you have a great time!

The Location

The location of any date is crucial and can set the mood for the entire evening.

You need to think about this one carefully. Is your date unbearably loud and annoying? Then you may have to take them somewhere just as loud so you can tone out the sound of their voice (although if they are really this terrible, perhaps choose a different date partner?)

A lot of people use a date (especially a first date) to get to know the person they are with. To find out the things that are really important, like whether they prefer cats over dogs or if they like to spend their evenings drinking wine in a Pikachu onesie. The perfect date setting for such an evening is a quiet café or restaurant, somewhere where you won’t be distracted and you can really get to know one another.

On the flip side, if you already know the person you are dating you may want to tailor the date to their personality or what you both enjoy doing, whether that be wine tasting, horse riding, adventure rides, dancing, wildlife safari’s or foodie dates at the trendiest and most delicious restaurants Melbourne has to offer.

The Person

Make sure the person you choose to go on a date with is of sound mind. Or at least, as sound as yours. If you are unsure what to say to them or want to limit conversation in order to avoid extreme awkwardness, going to the movies is always a safe bet. You can sit together in a close and intimate environment whilst not having to say much at all.

Unless of course you are that annoying person in the cinema who talks the entire movie, puts their feet up on the seat in front of them and throws popcorn every time one of the actors falls down.

The Timing

A first date works well during the day (lots of daylight and plenty of people around with an opportunity to make a quick escape if things aren’t going to plan), while couples who have been dating for a while may enjoy longer dates, day trips and night time adventures.

Of course, going for a drink can be great fun too and an easy way of meeting up with someone who you are interested in. Choosing the right bar or club solely depends on what your interests are. Do you enjoy dancing? Or do you prefer a quieter setting where you can sip on your beverage while tipping your top hat and twirling your moustache?

Essentially, dating should be fun and a great way of experiencing new things with the person you love… Or the person you want to get to know better ;)

So what are you waiting for?! Get to it! Start an adventure. Build a fort. Or let us help you plan the perfect date.
