This is the first in a series of columns in which we’ll keep you up to date with contributor achievements, present interesting developments, and provide tips on becoming an even more successful contributor. Let’s go, shall we?
Overview
As the number of contributors grows, so does the network. This year alone, more than 31,000 new and confirmed data points landed in our database, and the added artists will soon be measured in millions.
The majority of contributions are in the Rock genre (24%), followed by Pop (15%) and Electronic (12%). See your most popular entries below.
Contributor Spotlight
In September 2019, we implemented a system with four different types of badges that let anyone see who the superstar contributors are. This system is fair and allows every “newbie” to climb all the way up to the holy grail of badges, the Godlike Contributor Badge. When you get it, it means that you’re pretty much the best in (music) class.
Two contributors, 2☼2☼ (edit: now known as (◔ ͜ʖ◔)👍) and Matjaž f, have gone all in and won the badge already. So far, and at the time of writing this column, they’ve earned more than 31,000 and 61,000 points respectively in March alone, with our sun-loving user adding and editing artists, while Matjaž’s specialty are events. Check out their favorite genres and some other facts below. Thank you, guys, you’re absolutely crushing it!
Turn badge collection into pro status.
The higher the points, the better the badges, and the better the chance for you to become one of our pro contributors and turn your hobby into a full-time job. For tips and tricks, follow in the footsteps of Camilo Bernheim, one of our 50 professionals.
Also, have you read about Alan from Slovenia, who can tell the genre of a band just by looking at the logo? Alan is the star of our new column called “Spotted”, where we introduce our most dedicated contributors and highlight their work, which never goes unnoticed.
What’s New and in the Pipeline?
We’ve just introduced an upgraded version of our contributors charts, which is now the same as the Artist List view page. This means that now, every single contributor is listed, not just the top 10.
We’ve also modified the rewards system for our top contributors. Just like before, the top 20 contributors are rewarded, but the potential rewards for the top 3 places have increased in value, as you can see in the detailed table below.
Coming up soon — a new feature in your profile’s overview section. With it, you’ll be prompted to undertake tasks, in other words, you’ll see which IDs need editing. We’ll focus on artists and venues first, meaning you’ll have the chance to get new entities to edit simply by clicking a button.
Tips & Tricks
While we want to make sure that different parts of the globe get a fair share of our attention, there will always be countries and cities that need some extra love.
In this first round, please apply your best editing skills to add new venues from Sacramento, California, Anaheim, California, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Who’s Who at Viberate?
Last but not least, we’re sure you’d like to know more about who takes care of you on our end. First up to say “hi” is Jožica, our invaluable core team member and contributor point of contact.
“Joži” has been with us for over two years now, and she gets to correspond with many contributors, especially the ones who make it to the top 20. ‘’Thanks to contributors, I’ve expanded my music taste, as they always suggest new artists from different genres. They also make our work much easier, as they know our site quite well, so sometimes they’re the first to notice a bug and contact us.’’
Being a huge Pearl Jam fan, Jožica hopes to attend their concert in Budapest in July: ‘’Almost a decade ago, I saw them in Prague, which was the best concert of my life. So far, it hasn’t been canceled, so I hope it will remain on the calendar!’’
