Keeping Our Distance — but Not From Our Goals

What a year March was, huh? It’s times like these that really put your ability to think on your feet to the test. Luckily for us, we’re a tech startup, so we know how to shuffle fast: we set up home offices, pushed forward, and even put together a festival monitoring service, practically overnight.

Online fun time

Maintaining the social distance didn’t stop us from having fun in our team meetings. Here’s a glimpse into our virtual sessions — and thereby our minds. While some of us transformed our workstations into space stations, others went to paradise beaches, or simply went gaga. The gamers got ready for their evening sessions, and a select few kept in mind their traditional weekly after-work meetup at the nearby gas station. Now that’s team spirit!

You know, business as usual.

Fans ReConnect with UMEK

Meanwhile, our co-founder DJ UMEK was also hard at work. Joining the music industry’s initiatives to move live gigs online during the pandemic, he dropped two Techno sets from his home studio, one via Kurzschluss Clubbing’s “Party from Home” stream, and one via Beatport’s “ReConnect” Global Livestream. While we lol’d at the viewers’ comments both times (“Hey, this is ideal for us older ravers — we can party AND have someone watch over the kids.” or “Guys, keep hitting your light switch for that strobe effect!”), we also couldn’t help but admire the poster on his wall. When the eyes of the global community are on you, use the ad space wisely!

Staying on top of COVID-19 like only we can

As Vasja explained in this Blockchain Alliance Europe article, Viberate can’t really create a cure for the coronavirus — but we can create a service that utilizes data to everyone’s advantage. As soon as large music festivals like Ultra and Coachella announced their cancellations, we hacked together Sick Festivals to assist festival-goers with their plans, and to alert both the public and the media about the enormous revenue loss the industry is bound to suffer.

Spreading the word, not the virus.

For more on the subject, check out Matej’s recent blog post.

Sick Festivals soon gained traction, and was also mentioned in this in-depth Forbes article about the fallout musicians are facing right now.

What else is new?

The “canceled/postponed” filters and tags you see on the Sick Festivals site have, of course, also been added to our Viberate platform, which also saw a couple of tweaks. Most notably, we improved the contributor section and updated the “Hot Right Now” section with a new design for Spotify tracks.

Although our Zoom shenanigans may suggest otherwise, we’re as hard at work as ever. It’s impossible for anyone to accurately predict what the following months will bring, but we promise we’ll do everything in our power to help bring the situation back to normal as fast as possible. New specialized products and services are already in the works, and we’ll roll them out as soon as all this is over.

Stay safe and keep your spirits up. 2020 won’t get the best of us if we all give our best.
