There are many places in the world people visit for vacation or to get a break from life; however, some prefer Atlanta above all others. Having been dubbed everything from “capital of the New South” and “the next international city” to “the best place to do business,” it’s not surprising, so many people have come there.

Atlanta is the largest city in Georgia and the principal trade and transportation center of the southeastern United States. Many people have come here, yet not all for the same reason.

A Baton Rouge resident, Michael Vaughn, went to Atlanta more for business rather than to take in the sights and enjoy the scenery.

“I traveled to Atlanta to pursue a job opportunity with a pharmaceutical company. This opportunity was going to serve as my dream role and take me to retirement,” Vaughn said.

There are many job opportunities for positions such as a sales professional, customer service representatives and account managers within the city. Organizations like Innovida Pharmaceutique Corporation and North Fulton Compounding Pharmacy are looking to hire.

On the other hand, another Baton Rouge resident, Kylia Oliver, went to Atlanta because she hadn’t gone there before.

“I’ve been to just about all the major cities in the U.S. This was one of three cities that I wanted to visit, but had not,” Oliver said.

When you first arrive in Atlanta, taking in all of the city is a different experience for everyone.

“I initially felt a sense of accomplishment. Over the past decade, Atlanta has become an entrepreneur’s ideal place to start, grow, and sustain a business. It is propelled in education, resources, and opportunities, and you can feel it when you enter it,” Buchanan said.

She was awestruck when she arrived, and what she felt upon how far Atlanta has progressed is felt by many other people too. Oliver felt something similar, yet it seemed to be more focused on the natural environment or landscape when it came to the city.

“I thought the city was going to be more urban, but it was mountainous and green. There were plenty of trees, open land and forests,” Oliver said.

She more than likely enjoyed spending time in the parks due to Atlanta having more than 3,000 acres of parkland and operating 33 recreational centers.

Atlanta has tons of glorious hotels and suites for you to stay in during your trip. The Atlanta Marriott Marquis is one of the top hotels and has been given four stars from people who wrote a review about their time spent there.

Near the hotel, there are places to visit, such as Centennial Park, home of the 1996 Olympic Games, and the World of Coca-Cola.

Centennial Park is a 22-acre green space that serves as Georgia’s lasting legacy of the Centennial Olympic Games and is located in downtown Atlanta. The park is mostly used to host concerts, festivals and private events.

The World of Coca-Cola is a museum where people can experience the backstory of the world’s most famous beverage and taste samples from over 100 different beverages made by The Coca-Cola Company. For those looking to try it out, 121 Baker Street in Pemberton Place is where the most excellent drink is.

If you are looking for restaurants to sate your hunger, then restaurants like Old Lady Gang are just one of the few places you should check out.

“I was able to go to the Old Lady Gang Restaurant. The food was soulful and good. The food is nothing like Louisiana’s flavors, but tasty,” Oliver said.

Old Lady Gang is a southern eatery known for its soulful food classics like Kaela’s grilled ribeye, Aunt Bertha’s fried chicken and Kandi’s honey-glazed blackened salmon. All the meals are cooked with complete dedication to their original recipes and are some of the best southern cuisine offered.

Atlanta’s culture is similar to other cities for people when day becomes night and vice versa. It causes them to feel as if the entire city is alive and that there are endless opportunities to gain a better understanding of the city.

“The culture is rich in love, passion, dreams, and resources. I made so many connections while there with people who opened their arms, hearts, and minds and shared their knowledge with me. The nightlife I must also say is fantastic and sophisticated,” Buchanan said.

Once you understand the culture, you can’t help but fall more in love with this magnificent city along with its people and everything they have to offer.

Like all journeys in life, everything has to come to an end, but you won’t be sad when you leave. Many people have enjoyed the experience and will remember for years to come.

“My overall stay was enjoyable and reminiscent of the south from the standpoint of friendly, hospitable people,” Vaughn said.

Atlanta has become an extraordinary city and will become even more significant as time passes. The people, the food, the culture, and everything that makes Atlanta “center of the New South” will welcome you without hesitation and show you the most fabulous time of your life.
