Our Approach to Identity

On Personal Identity in Africa

In the previous post, we established how central the individual is in daily interactions despite holding different credentials.

One person may hold a national ID card, a driver’s license, a student’s ID card, an employee card, a club membership card and a health insurance card. Yet in the end, it is still the same person regardless of interactions made in the real world. In usage of any of the credentials, one only needs to show it, have its credibility checked before being granted access to a facility or services tied to the identity credentials.

Loss, erroneously issued and sometimes lack of an identity credential is a leading barrier to access of essential services. Much more for the average African citizen. Opening a bank account becomes an order tougher, enrolling for higher education or a national exam becomes hard, renting a house leads to more hoops, and not to mention opening an M-PESA account. You are effectively unable to live in a dignified way, get gainful employment, or contribute directly to the digital economy, say, becoming an Uber driver or a Jumia merchant.

At Vibranium ID, we challenge this notion by buidl’ing you a verified unique profile using your available credentials to provide a continuous experience when one or more of the other credentials are unavailable. During use, your profile will be securely accessible through your digital wallet, where you may opt to hold other forms of credentials.

A useful ID profile requires widespread application across several contexts. As developers, we understand this best by providing a suite of tools and pluggable functionalities that developers can integrate into their existing applications with ease. Vibranium ID’s state-of-the-art blockchain ID architecture is built on community driven open standards and open-source software. This makes it possible to make your existing system, blockchain backed without crypto and ledger hassles.

Supported services include;

  1. ID Verification and User Onboarding
  2. Know Your Customer (KYC) service to review new and existing users
  3. Passwordless Authentication for secure online interactions
