Welcome to JOUR90008. This semester we’re going to explore the world of video, and we’ll start off with using iphones to shoot short videos. For inspiration, I’m posting an 11-minute iphone film made by the Oscar-winning director Michel Gondry, who made Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This was shot on an iphone 7 plus, and it’s incredibly charming.

Do watch it and think about composition, and the rule of thirds. Also think about how movement can be created without moving the iphone, but through action on the screen. For those with short attention spans, there are a number of very short videos zeroing in on different aspects of the film here. I particularly liked these ones to show his creative use of the iphone
