Collective Digital Studio signs rock band Boyce Avenue
Multi-platform digital entertainment company Collective Digital Studio (CDS) announced today that it has signed the Boyce Avenue, a rock band consisting of brothers Alejandro, Fabian and Daniel Manzano.
Formed in 2004, the Sarasota, Florida-based band has racked up more than 7.2 million subscribers and 2 billion views to date on YouTube with a mix of original music and acoustic covers.
A spokesperson for CDS said the signing is not affected by the company’s recent acquisition by ProSiebenSat.1 Group, which is merging it with its Berlin-based multi-channel network Studio71 to create a new global MCN dubbed Collective Studio71.
Since leaving Universal Republic Records in 2010, Boyce Avenue has distributed its music independently through its own 3 Peace Records, selling 400,000 albums, 5.3 million tracks and nearly 450 million streams. Over the years, the group has played for over 400,000 fans in 25 countries on five continents. It also served as vocal coaches on season two of “The X Factor” in the U.S.
“We joined YouTube only two years after its launch before being a YouTube star was a thing,” said the band in a statement. “We knew this was a platform from which we could share our music internationally with our fans in a very direct and personal way.”
The Boyce Avenue signing is a curious move for CDS. Formed in 2005 as a full-service multimedia management and production company named The Collective, it divested itself of its film and TV management arm — which repped such actors as Evangeline Lilly, John Leguizamo, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jason Isaacs and Wilmer Valderrama — when partners Sam Maydew and Jeff Golenberg departed the company in 2013. Then, in December 2014, it shuttered The Collective’s remaining music management arm — which handled Linkin Park, Slash, Godsmack, Toni Braxton, Kelly Rowland and Staind — to focus on on CDS, which was launched as a division of the company in 2011.
