Discovery’s New Form Digital Debuts New Series on AOL

New Form Digital, a joint venture between Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Discovery Communications, and a few other people to produce original video content for digital platforms, has launched a new series with AOL.
Featuring an array of celebrities, including athletes, filmmakers, and actors, “Inspired” is about the “defining moments” in each of the guest’s lives. The series will use a mix of on-camera interviews as well as photos and other archival footage to recount the stories that shaped each subject into the person he or she is today.
Ten episodes are planned for “Inspired,” which was first announced during AOL’s Digital Content Newfront in 2014. The first five are premiering today on AOL On and the AOL Originals channel on YouTube, with the remaining five to come on March 4.
Guests to be featured across the season include Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller, “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter, “Sex and the City” creator Darren Star, “Dumb & Dumber” helmers Peter and Bobby Farrelly, former Boston Celtics (and current Los Angeles Clippers) coach Doc Rivers, “Thirtysomething” helmers Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, journalist Lisa Ling, and “Whiplash” director Damien Chazelle.

New Form has been pretty active since being launched in the spring of 2014. Since then, the studio has produced a number of projects with YouTube stars like Anna Akana, Meghan Camarena, and Joey Graceffa. It also has a multi-series development and distribution deal with Vimeo, and has ventured into branded content as well.
