Drew Barrymore & Timothy Olyphant Go On ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ for Netflix

Netflix, which is now billing itself as “the world’s leading Internet TV network,” has greenlit the comedy series “Santa Clarita Diet,” starring Drew Barrymore (“Charlie’s Angels”) and Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”).

Created by writer Victor Fresco (“Better Off Ted,” “Andy Richter Controls the Universe”), the show is scheduled to debut exclusively on the streaming platform in 2017.

In the single-camera series, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita until Sheila goes through a dramatic change that sends their lives down a comedic path of death and destruction.

“The genius of casting Timothy and Drew, combined with my comedic… oh wait, that’s Cindy’s quote,” said Fresco in a statement. “I agree with what Cindy is about to say.”

“The genius casting of Timothy and Drew combined with Victor’s unique comedic sensibility will delight, and definitely surprise, our members around the world,” added Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content.

Showrunner Fresco and stars Barrymore and Olyphant will executive produce “Santa Clarita Diet” along with Aaron Kaplan, Tracy Katsky, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell. Nancy Juvonen, Barrymore’s partner in the production company Flower Films, will serves as producer.

“Santa Clarita Diet” is a Netflix production.
