Frederator Learning Spanish Animation with Atomo Network
Frederator Networks is making a big bet on Spanish-language programming.
One of the preeminent purveyors of digital-native animation on the web, producing popular short-form shows such as “Bravest Warrior” and “Bee & Puppycat,” Frederator announced today that it has partnered with Mexico City-based Ánima Estudios to create the Átomo Network to incubate Spanish-language animation content.
The two companies have made an initial investment of more than a million dollars to launch the network, and set up offices in New York City, Burbank, Madrid and Mexico City.
Under the terms of the deal, the Átomo Network will provide translation and dubbing services to select members of The Channel Frederator Network to help their English language channels and shows attract Spanish-speaking audiences. Átomo will also provide creators access to Hispanic-specific promotions and licensing opportunities and help them to build projects both on and off YouTube.
The Átomo Network YouTube channel will debut with original Spanish-language cartoons from Ánima Estudios and localized versions of Channel Frederator content, including “107 Facts,” “Tooned Up” and “Cartoon Conspiracy.”
“We’re seeing huge scalability in online content in the Spanish-language vertical, especially within Central and Latin America, and an appetite for next generation animation,” said Fred Seibert, CEO of Frederator Networks, in a statement.
Founded in 1998 by Seibert, a former president of Hanna-Barbera, Frederator has produced more than 200 shorts that have spawned 16 internet and TV series, including Butch Hartman’s “The Fairly OddParents” on Nickelodeon and Pendleton Ward’s “Adventure Time” on Cartoon Network. Frederator is partnered with Sony Pictures Animation to develop and produce animated feature films and YouTube to create television-quality cartoons on the web.
According to The Channel Frederator Network, over the past year, it has increased its channels from 1200 to 2500 and its views from 120 million to 540 million. It has channels from more than 100 different countries and a global audience of 40 million subscribers.
Founded in 2002, Ánima Estudios has the feature films “Top Cat: The Movie,” “The Legend of the Mummies” and “Wicked Flying Monkeys,” as well as such animated series as “El Chavo,” “El Chapulín Colorado” and “Teenage Fairytale Dropouts.” It is currently working on “Las Leyendas,” the first Netflix animated series to be produced in Latin America.
