HBO Nabs Vimeo Original Series ‘High Maintenance’

HBO has nabbed the popular Vimeo original series, “High Maintenance,” and will eventually offer episodes from seasons one and two across HBO, HBO Go, and HBO Now.

Yes, that means the next season of the web series will debut on cable TV, not Vimeo. HBO has greenlit six, new episodes to come out exclusively on its network, after which webisodes one through 19 will show up on the cable network.

Created by Ben Sinclair (who also stars as the lead character) and Katja Blichfield, “High Maintenance” follows the daily errands of a nameless, Brooklyn-based weed dealer (Sinclair) and his many clients. Each episode offers a glimpse into a different client’s life, with the dealer providing the common thread that stitches them together.

“High Maintenance” debuted on Vimeo in 2013 for free, after which the creators partnered with the video platform to offer season two there exclusively, and for a price, as the first Vimeo original series.

“The pickup by HBO is incredible validation for the show as well as the global creative community developing and releasing innovative programming directly on Vimeo,” said Vimeo CEO, Kerry Trainor, in a statement. “The barriers between online and traditional distribution continue to erode, and we look forward to continuing to support ‘High Maintenance’ as well as future projects from Ben and Katja.”
