International Broadcasters Continue Push into US Territory — UK’s Channel 4 Launches New SVOD Service

The SVOD service boom continues. UK’s Channel 4 and Global Series Network have launched a new subscription video-on-demand service in the US. The subscription service, Walter Presents, consists of film and shows curated by Walter Iuzzolino, a real-life person who has spent the past two years watching more than 4000 hours of television to choose only the very best dramas for the service (that’s 3x the content created for Verizon go90's first wave). The service, which launches today at the price of $6.99/month or $69.99 for the year, aims to cut down on the time it would take to uncover award-winning, top rated series from around the world.

“In a world where we have so much incredible content and so little time to watch it, it makes sense to watch only the very best TV drama,” said Iuzzolino. “Until now, much of it lay hidden or scattered across the globe but I’ve solved that problem and brought it together in one easy to navigate streaming channel. Here you will find exquisite series that you can watch whenever you want, all of which have been blockbuster hits in their native countries. Dramas of outstanding quality which I’m passionate about and proud to include in our collection.”

Today, at launch, the streaming service offers the shows being curated by Iuzzolino are the scripted genres consisting of 34 series from 11 different countries. Among them are French political drama “Spin”, Norwegian thriller “Valkyrien” and two projects from the Netherlands — mafia-drama “Black Widow” and political mystery drama “Flight HS13”.

Customers can watch ad-free on walterpresents.com, all Apple and Android devices, and Amazon channels. It also joins existing UK-based streamer Britbox in competing for American viewership.
