Any fans that missed Coldplay’s “A Head Full of Dreams Tour” will still have a chance to see the group up close and personal. The band has just announced that they will be teaming up with Live Nation and Samsung to live stream one of their shows in VR. And for those who already own a Samsung –compatible Gear VR headset, this experience will be totally free.

“Live Nation is a trailblazer when it comes to producing live virtual reality concerts, and we’ve been excited to bring Coldplay into the mix since announcing our collaboration with Samsung and Gear VR in late May,” said Kevin Chernett, Executive Vice President, Global Partnerships and Content Distribution, Live Nation.

Live nation is staying true to their mission of not allowing location to effect a fan’s experience. Coldplay’s concert set in Chicago’s Soldier Field on Aug. 17 at 8:30 pm CT will be streamed in over 50 countries. Users will also be able to enjoy replays of the show for a limited time on Samsung VR.

“Through our industry-leading VR hardware and platform ecosystem, we are thrilled to offer Samsung Gear VR owners access to premium, immersive live entertainment and experiences in full 360,” said Michael Schmier, Vice President of Content and Services, Samsung Electronics America. “By partnering with Live Nation and Coldplay, music fans across the globe with Gear VR can tune in to the live concert, experiencing the energy of the show like never before.”

This sort of venture is hardly groundbreaking for Live Nation who has already live-streamed concerts in collaboration with NextVR. Artists such as Slash, Imagine Dragons, Thievery Corporation, and Lady A have all given fans virtual experiences to cheer about. However the “A Head Full of Dreams Tour”, inspired by Coldplay’s seventh album, currently ranking as the №5 highest grossing tour of all time, will put virtual reality concerts in a new league entirely.

“We not only give fans the best in-seat experience, but we’re also committed to working with the best technologies to provide every music fan an extraordinary concert experience, regardless of where they are,” Chernett said.
