Mashable Grabs Exclusive Distribution for 5 Series from Beyond
After a relatively quiet period for both companies, Mashable and Endemol Shine Beyond have emerged with an exclusive multi-series distribution deal, which includes the third season of Beyond’s hyper-successful global esports series “Legends of Gaming.” “Legends of Gaming” drew over 70 million viewers in its first season. Season three is slated for release for Fall / Winter 2016 and will be the first series to be released as part of the deal.
All series, which will fall in tech, science and esports genres, will be produced by Beyond’s crew, now led by Bonnie Pan, who noted: “This series and our additional slate of programming represents an important milestone in the transformation of audience consumption patterns.”
To reach audiences everywhere possible, both companies will distribute the programming across their various channels which includes their respective social video channels on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, as well as any OTT and owned and operated properties. Combining Mashable’s cumulative reach of roughly 30 million followers with Endemol’s extension across over 20 platforms, including smart tv apps, Beyond and Mashable are likely hoping to see lift and stability in viewership.
In addition to co-distribution, both companies will also co-sell sponsorships against the series, which may indicate the four other series may never find the light of day. The “built-if-sold” model is still a crux for digital video studios and production companies in place of deficit financing projects.
If the two can show strong lift with “Legends of Gaming Season Three” though, they’ll have a strong case for advertisers looking to under-write an additional slate of shows.
