You & Mr. Jones Has Acquired theAmplify for an Undisclosed Amount

Justin Rezvani’s social influencer and marketing company, theAmplify, has been acquired by brandtech firm You & Mr. Jones, a brandtech firm that empowers businesses to scale at faster rates through strategic acquisition and investments. As part of this deal, You & Mr. Jones has acquired a majority stake. TheAmplify has made a business around using data to surface influencers on various social channels like Facebook, Vine, Instagram and YouTube and then pair them with prospecting brands.

Hulu Orders “The Handmaid’s Tale”from MGM Television with Golden Globe Winner Elizabeth Moss Attached

Hulu has made a straight to-series order of MGM Television’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” an adaptation of Margarat Atwood’s novel that tells the story of a handmaid struggling in a male-dominated world. Golden Globe Winner Elizabeth Moss (“Mad Men”) is attached to play the handmaid. The deal marks the first between MGM Television and Hulu.

Netflix Renews ‘The Ranch,’ Greenlights ‘The Punisher’


Netflix has ordered up a second season of its original, multi-camera, half-hour comedy series “The Ranch,” starring starring Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Sam Elliott and Debra Winger. Set on a Colorado ranch, the series focuses on a retired semi-pro football player who returns home to run the family business with his brother. Executive produced by Kutcher, Don Reo (“Two and Half Men,” “My Wife and Kids”) and Jim Patterson (“Two and a Half Men,” “Mike and Molly”), the series will premiere its second season in 2017.

In other Netflix news, the streaming giant has ordered a full season of Marvel’s “The Punisher,” starring Jon Bernthal (“The Walkind Dead”) in the title role. Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal”) is set to serve as executive producer and showrunner and write the first two episodes.


NBCUniversal and BuzzFeed Teaming for Rio Olympics Snapchat Discover Channel

NBCUniversal is getting some synergistic return on the $200 million investment it made in BuzzFeed last summer. Today, it announced that the NBC Sports Groups’ Olympics Division will be partnering with BuzzFeed on a Snapchat Discover channel dedicated to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (Aug. 5–21).
