Seeso Seals Its Fate, Loses Four Shows to VRV (Update: It’s Official, Seeso Is Shutting Down)

If things looked bleak for the streaming service in May, they haven’t seen anything yet.

It seems as though Seeso is on its final leg. The NBC streaming comedy site has officially lost four of its shows to VRV’s new Select service. “The Cyanide & Happiness Show”, “My Brother and Me”, “Hidden America with Jonah Ray”, and Dan Harmon’s “HarmonQuest” will all be available for free with ads on VRV. However, the second season of “HarmonQuest”, debuting on Sept. 15, will only be on the site’s monthly subscription service.

If the loss of these four shows wasn’t a big enough blow to Seeso, IndieWire reported earlier this week that “There’s…Johhny!”, Paul Reiser’s new comedy set to premiere Aug. 24, is looking for a new outlet. Following suit, “Bajillion Dollar Properties” and “Take My Wife” are also being pitched to new homes. While NBC has still not released an official statement, “Bajillion Dollar Properties” actor Paul F. Tompkins had people talking on twitter.

Seeso’s decline is hardly a surprise even though it only launched in January 2016, after being announced the prior year. The branch’s head, Evan Shapiro, left in May, followed by massive company layoffs in June. If NBC decides to not scrap the service altogether, it will need a significant facelift; possibly abandoning original programming completely for NBC-owned shows.

VRV Select is available for $9.99/month with a 30-day free trial once the Seeso shows are up.

Update: Seeso Officially announced through Facebook that the streaming service would be shutting down later this year.
