Stone Newman to Lead Kid-Media Startup as Chief Revenue Officer

The former Genius Brands International executive has joined the adolescent-focused digital media start up. (formally Pocketwatch) has been making a lot of noise since its launch in March. It would be hard not with names like Robert Downey Jr., Producer Jon Landau, United Talent Agency, Third Wave Digital and CBS chief Les Moonves backing you. And now the digital media start up is adding Genius Brands International’s Stone Newman into its ranks as CRO. Newman will focus on developing the company’s owned and operated YouTube channels, merchandising initiatives, and drive licensing which is aimed at children aged 2–11.

“I never thought I’d say this, but being a father of toddler twin girls and a seven-and-a-half-year-old son, I can’t wait to bring my new work home to my kids,” joked Newman who most recently worked as Genius Brands’ president of global consumer products licensing, worldwide content sales and marketing.

During his time at Genius Brands’, Newman helped secure its first content sales with Netflix, Nickelodeon, and Mattel’s Fisher Price. He also co-created and produced the tween-aimed YouTube brand SpacePop. This experience will no doubt help Newman develop’s rapidly growing YouTube brand, which recently attracted Kenan Thompson as a producer and developer.

“Stone is what I would call a mythical CRO, an executive who can do it all from merchandising, to content sales, to cultivating sponsorship opportunities,” said CEO Chris Williams (former Maker Studios Chief Audience Officer). “He combines the right mix of big company experience, with a roll up your sleeves startup attitude, to help us achieve our goals during this explosive stage in our business.”
