Twitch Expands its Live-Stream Portfolio with Lucha Libre’s Triplemania XXV

Twitch is showing it has more moves than video game related elbow drops. The social video platform has announced that it will live-stream Triplemania XXV, the 25th anniversary event of Mexico’s biggest wrestling promotion organization, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
Twitch has always been known for hosting video gaming related content and live streams, but has recently been branching out to encompass other themes. The social video platform has streamed several marathons including Bob Ross “Joy of Painting,” all 886 episodes of “Mr.Rogers,” a 120 hour anime marathon (in partnership with CrunchyRoll), and just the other day the site live-streamed NASA footage of the solar eclipse.
The move to stream wrestling event was due to the growing interest of the sport within the Twitch community, according to CEO Emmet Shear.
“We have recently seen the Twitch community rally around wrestling content since the sport is so entertainment-driven with engaging personalities and supported by passionate fans,” said he explained. “With AAA Worldwide being among the industry’s biggest wrestling organizations and lucha libre holding a special place in pop culture, our involvement with Triplemania XXV marks a fun and fascinating milestone.”
The stream will be broadcast with commentary in both Spanish and English, with a “best of” Triplemania marathon leading up to the live event. The content can be viewed on Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s new Twitch channels: Twitch.tv/Luchalibreaaa (Spanish) and Twitch.tv/Luchalibreaaa_En (English).
The Triplemania pre-show marathon on August 24, at 3:00 p.m. PDT, with the live broadcast of Triplemania XXV beginning on August 26 from 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. PDT.
