2021 saw a lot of feature development and product releases for us at VideoWiki. Let’s recap some major releases and product features while we explore 2022 plans.

VideoWiki comprises of products to create and exchange knowledge though digital mediums. Thus, we have a product line-up of:

  1. Content — An AI assisted Video Content Creator
  2. Class — A collaborative web conferencing solution
  3. Cast — A scheduling and broadcasting solution for event casts
  4. Creatives — A decentralized stock media marketplace with self-governed ownership of your creative assets (in development)

Content

Our content editor with an AI assisted video creation tool saw usability improvement.

Trim and Speed edits on Videos: Most productive when you are editing a meeting record (another accomplishment which is less touted but immensely useful). Try speeding up screen records, or trimming some scenes shorter, if you are preparing a video pitch that has to perfectly fit in 3 or 5 mins criteria.

AniMotions on photos: Video content libraries are understandably much smaller than the image libraries, thus many times we do not find a suitable video snippet that would fit the idea. We added animation options like panning, zooming, etc, on photos to make them give a video effect.

Saved Videos: A private space was created for your drafts, forks and published inventory. This allows you to keep working on multiple projects while saving the multiple works in drafts. You can rework on any published video also and retouch it by forking it yourself.

Forking: The bigger objective behind VideoWiki was always to create and maintain editable videos with proper contribution records for all the contributors, thus a “Collaboratory video creation platform”. Forks allow people to get back to editing a previously published video and change scenes, subtitles or narration of it as a project. This was deployed as “fork Video icon”. Research is still going on for a decentralized version control implementation that can allow us to credit all contributors and maintain a track record with an autonomous system. We have partnered with researchers at University of Derby, who have written papers on such subjects and exploring the best way to build trace logs while maintaining IP of authors and crediting new contributions in an automated and transparent manner. Reach us if if you want to contribute to the future of knowledge and be a part of this project

Data Marketplace: In the beginning of the year, Ocean Protocol was integrated as a commercial marketplace, that allows you to sell your created content. These ideas are being explored ever since with a future vision of a data economy with creators selling, exchanging and staking their knowledge in blockchain ecosystems.

Music Library: A background music library was added. Who doesn’t like a soft background score, try adding narration and music to your videos. Next would be automated AI narrations and speaking avatars which are already proven as a POC (proof of concept), but are being conceptualized to make sure it is a useful and used feature.

Subtitles background and color options: We feel this one is still short of a perfect solution but it still makes to a major feature improvement list, because it was just short of ‘horrible’ before. Subtitles work, but we assume a need of more effects if you are creating marketing videos or presentations.

Backlogs:

  • More languages to support.
  • Moving Speed and Trim options to the Course tabs instead of Library to optimize UX
  • Adding more Subtitle / text Overlay effects
  • Left, Center, Right align on subtitles

Classes

Our classrooms saw integration with our content editor to make a powerful recording and post production studio.

Class Records: Recording itself is a competitive advantage over certain players, like google meet. Our ‘Pause and Resume’ feature allows you to of course, ‘pause and resume’ while you are in the session. All the sections are stitched together at the end and you will have one video export of the complete session that you chose to record.

AI assisted Edits on meeting records: If the pause and resume recording wasn’t cool enough already, hear this out: After a room recording is stored, you now have the option to import and edit it using the content editor. Fancy thing is that, AI will automatically detect and split the recording into scenes based on the pauses and switches between the speaker. And you have all the options of Speed, Trim and Delete on the scenes as you like. Say if you want to speed up certain sections of the call.

Class Attendance and dashboard: Having the ability to create multiple classes with standard links is a major advantage of VideoWiki classes. Now, you could also just download the attendance as an export. This saves you the hassle of a roll call and furthermore, you will have a neat visual of the attendee avatars (or initials) in the dashboard to view previous attendees before you start the next session.

Server side load balancing: Our client side HTML 5 rendering and network optimization save you the computer resources while giving you a smoother and lighter experience with lesser no lags. We implemented solutions to increase server side capacity to make platform more scalable, even with a higher number of users online.

Backlogs:

  • Improvements to Class UI
  • Sharing of the ‘join class’ link by moderators
  • Browser extension with quick access to class links
  • Breakout room dynamics

Cast

Our solution to run events or scheduled classes with audience invitations and reminders.

Event customizations and branding: Casts come in different colors to personalize your audience experience while they attend your event. You can change colors, add backgrounds and even add your own logo. Who wouldn’t want the event to be conducted by themselves rather than by zoom?

Email reminders and passwords: You audience invites are also managed by the system itself. Just mark who is an attendee and who is a speaker and it sends the login details according to the access level. The reminders are sent just before the event also to make sure no one is missing it out on the excuse of forgetting what time the event was.

Infinite Viewers through VideoWiki casting: The event you are conducting can be cast on VideoWiki for any number of users who you invite to view live. The participants will be in rooms and the viewers will be able to view it on screen from “the hall”, so to say. You can also stream your event live with YouTube integration.

Cast Customizations: Open events operate differently than private and ticketed events like TEDx, your event has customization capabilities that allow you to offer the experience tailored to your needs. You can attend to the details by customizing various options like room layouts, camera and mic accesses, etc. to suit your cast experience.
