Find Fun Ways To Distract Yourself From Unhelpful Thoughts

Often, negative thoughts, though not desirable, can be bringing us a message. But on most occasions, they just get in the way. For example, as you set out to do something, they pop up, discouraging you. Annoying and undermining our confidence, preventing us from enjoying what we are about to do.

And of course, it isn't always easy to distract ourselves from negative thoughts. But try we must because we don't deserve to be stuck in that miserable space.

What to do?

  • When you feel an unhelpful thought coming up, think about a positive experience and focus on it. It could be something you enjoyed. Relive it in your mind.
  • Watch TV/YouTube — perhaps a comedy that will make you laugh, because laughter IS the best medicine.
  • Focus on a hobby — such as coloring, sketching, singing, dancing, reading.
  • Get outdoors — it is a big world out there!

In short — take your mind off it. No need to allow those nasty thoughts any more headspace than absolutely unavoidable!

I recommend making a list of things that make you happy — and pulling it up when you need a pick-me-up.
