Sayan Chatterjee is a retired IAS officer who lives in Delhi. He belonged to the 1976 batch of the IAS, Kerala cadre. He held various positions in both the Government of Kerala and Government of India like Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India, Director General Bureau of Indian Standards, Director General Sports Authority of India, Principal Secretary Water Resources Government of Kerala, Commissioner Land Revenue and many other positions including working with UNDP in Kabul.
He retired as Secretary to Government of India India in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

He is an alumnus of St Stephen’s College, Delhi. He attained the degree of B.Sc. (Hons) Chemistry and M. Sc. Chemistry from Delhi University. He also did a stint in the University of Glasgow, UK.

He has authored four books of short stories entitled — A Bureaucrat’s Yarns, A Slice of Delhi, It All Adds Up to Love, and The Plasticine Frame — and two novels — Yantra Mantra Tantra and Avenging Revenge.
