The SF-Noir Connection
Ah, noir. In the 1940s and 1950s, film noir was popular. It featured a protagonist who was a detective, pretty much always a private detective, sleazy surroundings and a tone of tragedy. The term was coined by a French critic in 1946.
Noir crossed over into the written world, of course, where it also features a style of writing which is highly descriptive and rhythmic. (I’m not very good at it. I keep trying). Not all noir…
