I reached the age where I wanted a dog. I mean I really wanted a dog. I had recently seen the 1957 movie Old Yeller and I cried like a child at the end. Well I was a child. This was 1962. I had fixed my imagery on a German Shepherd who would be a well-trained companion and defender in the vein of Old Yeller. Of course we didn’t live out in the country or small town.
