Trends that will bloom again in spring
Floral patterns and embellishments are a perennial favorite during the spring season. It’s a detail that speaks for itself without having to be labeled a trend, but this spring is going to be different: florals are going to be in full bloom this spring. The S/S 2024 runways used floral motifs in more ways than just as a symbol of the season.
This season, the rose was the designers’ choice. It’s the same rose, but it looked different on each show. The distinguishing feature didn’t stop with the paint; 3D shapes and three-dimensional silhouettes appeared across the runway. At Corsage and Simone Rocha’s shows, models walked with flowers in their hands, alongside garments with rose petals. Sandy Liang adorned dresses and skirts with silk roses, while Palomo Spain showed rose-shaped bags with appliquéd embellishments, and the undercover also showed off terrarium dresses.
Balmain’s rose was also three-dimensional, but it had a different vibe. The focus seemed to be on the “strength” of the rose rather than the romantic aspect. The roses were created in a bold red color and patent leather, and they were sculpted onto every item, whether it was a garment, bag, or shoes.
Roses were monumental in Sarah Burton’s last show, too, with prints emblazoned across dresses, blazers, and other pieces as obvious as ruffled embroidery, and dresses shaped like naked petals were all the rage.
David Koma focused on a sexy, gothic vibe with sharp, dizzying metallics, neon-colored embellishments and prints, see-through tops, and gowns with rose stems running from bust to thigh.
Ducan also printed colorful floral fabrics on feminine materials to create a softer vibe with floral patterns.
