As much as we swoon over the Ducati Panigale and its predecessors like the 916, 1098 and the 1198, we know that Ducati isn’t just about race winning superbikes anymore. There is more to the brand and the Multistrada tops the wishlist of everybody who wants a pegscrapping all-purpose adventure bike (something that the BMW R1200GS is not!).

Well, there’s an all-new model announced and looks like double the fun. To start with, there’s a new bulkier and sportier bodywork but the stance is still unmistakably Multistrada. Ducati has announced four variants in the range including the Multistrada 1200, 1200 S, 1200 S Granturismo and 1200 S Pikes Peak edition.

The biggest news though is the second generation Testastretta 11° DS engine that borrows technology from the 1199 Panigale’s motor. The usual drill has been carried out here for better mid-range and smoother power delivery. No power figures are available right now but the max torque has increased to 125Nm (91.8lb-ft). There is also ride-by-wire and a more sophisticated traction control system on offer.

The Multistrada 1200 S now gets electronic 48mm Sachs front forks and rear single shock with the new Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS) system. The DSS is a new technology featuring semi-active suspension management that constantly re-adjusts damping to maintain a composed ride irrespective of the road surface. Brakes are also new in the form of Bosch ABS 9ME controlled Brembo braking system that offers shorter braking distance and better stability over on- and off-road conditions.

The Multistrada S will be equipped with 58-litre side bags while the Granturismo variant gets 73-litre sidebags and a 48-litre top box along with heated grips, spot lights and engine protection bars. The Pikes Peak edition looks the most interesting though with its factory colour scheme, forged Marchesini wheels and carbonfibre details.
