We love Ben and thought the same thing in December!

Village Global is proud to announce our investment in GlamCam through Network Catalyst. As Benedict noted, there’s a undeniable need. GlamCam is out to be “Twitch for Makeup” as one of the first consumer apps to connect users with beauty influencers and the products they care most about, in a live, interactive, and engaging experience.

With over 7 billion monthly views on YouTube for the category of “beauty” and 150M+ posts using the hashtag “#makeup” and “#beauty” on Instagram, this is one of the most popular verticals in social media, period.

With billions of women and men wearing makeup everyday, GlamCam is serving the $500B+ cosmetics market of product discovery and commerce that is ripe for disruption.

Today, buying makeup is often impersonal, overwhelming and occurs in-store. We believe the rise of d2c social e-commerce and the influencer economy has created new opportunities for companies like GlamCam to connect, create and monetize individual products and brands online.

Now in private beta, and launching publicly in September, GlamCam will enable influencers to attract their existing audiences from platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. Those same influencers will then have the ability to create custom, live experiences, to sell, entertain or educate their fans on products they love and use.

GlamCam users will be able to purchase products directly from the app, where both the influencers and company take a cut. GlamCam believes this experience will pave the way for Fortune 500 beauty brands and SMB startups alike to reach new audiences while capitalizing on popular trends.

CEO, Calgary Avansino brings deep consumer insight and years of experience with influencer marketing in the beauty industry, and has teamed up with product developers who’s expertise in live video interaction has shown a track record for building viral, engaging products like Turntable.FM. GlamCam is joined by senior advisors from Lancôme, L’Oreal and Estee Lauder as well as co-investor, Cyan Banister from Founders Fund, who’s notable investments include other on-demand, d2c giants including Uber, PoshMark and social video sensation HQ Trivia.

GlamCam co-founder, Seth Goldstein had this to say about working with Village Global:

“Think of the person that’s been the most helpful in your professional and personal orbit. Now imagine there’s 5 of those folks helping you through your early stage growth. That’s what it feels like. And yes, you get to meet and discuss your ideas with luminaries such as Reid Hoffman and Sara Blakely. I had raised from top firms already, but knew I wanted the Village Global Network”

— Seth Goldstein, serial entrepreneur (Turntable.fm), Founder, GlamCam

GlamCam was referred to Village Global by Network Catalyst portfolio company founder, Kiran Bellubbi of Keyo. We’re thrilled to help the company scale.
