VIMANA company that currently develops Vertical Take-Off & Landing Autonomous Aerial Vehicles (VTOL AAV) has presented it’s deep technology during the Mianyang Science and Technology Expo exhibition that took place on September 5–8 in the city of Mianyang, the second largest prefecture-level city of Sichuan province in Southwest China.

The world of individual and sustainability mobility is extremely challenged. As urbanization headways, more people are crowding into cities, so conventional mobility concepts and local public transportation are reaching the limits of their capability. Traffic cramming and the consequent high levels of air pollution are the result, which in turn leads to corrosion of the quality of life.

The Mianyang Science & Technology City International High-Tech Expo is a major annual Chinese high-technology event supported by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the People’s Government of Sichuan Province. It’s core focus is on Smart-City, and the 2019 theme was “Technological Innovation, Deeper Reform, Open Cooperation”. The fair has been successfully held for six consecutive years, and more than 4,350 exhibitors and a total of over 14,000 projects were exhibited through the period. The exhibition is aimed to strengthen China’s international technological cooperation, and as a result a total of 2,893 projects were signed with a total amount of RMB 547bn ($76.6bn) in previous six expos.

VIMANA revolutionary technology represents a perfect fit with the exhibition aims and priorities. The company’s VTOL AAV are designed for the transportation of both cargo and passengers. All of VIMANA AAVs communicate via a proprietary protocol based on proprietary UAS Traffic Management (UTM) system that enables low-altitude airspace to be used globally as a novel transportation infrastructure and transaction network. More than ten thousands of expo visitors got to see the future of urban air mobility with VIMANA VTOL AAV 2.0 prototype static model.

The VTOL AAVs are designed to use urban airspace to transport commuters, move cargo throughout a city, and allow first responders a way to get to a location quickly. Since seamless integration is a necessity for the future of mobility, the VIMANA aerospace engineering team is developing a two and four-seater autonomous aerial vehicle. The aerial vehicle is designed to take-off vertically with four passengers propelled by hybrid electrical power plant. After it clears away from neighboring buildings, its tandem wings get tilted with 8 thrusting propellers to continue flight like conventional airplane for more than 900 km.

The VIMANA stand attracted the attention of the highest level officials both from Chinese and Russian side. Mr. Shao Hong, the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of China visited the VIMANA exposition, displayed at the center in the Russian High Technologies pavilion.

He highly appreciated the potential of full-fledged economic involvement of China’s lower air using VIMANA technology, particularly noting: “We will be happy to support the development of the national transport system in the lower air using VIMANA”, thus praising the company and its intentions on the national level. Mr. Shao Hong and VIMANA CEO Evgeni Borisov have exchanged an extended conversation sharing their thoughts and ideas on the future implementation of the aerial transportation in China and possible international collaborations in this area.

Mianyang is one of seven smart cities in China along with Sichuan Province being China’s only region where lower airspace is open for commercial flights. VIMANA received maximum attention from the official Mianyang and Sichuan Province government to support VIMANAs development in the region.

The VIMANA exposition got a high attention from the Russian official delegation at the expo as well. Mr. Sergey Glaziev, the Advisor to The President of Russia, took an extended tour at the stand followed by VIMANA CEO Evgeni Borisov. Mr. Glaziev has expressed deep interest in further communication with the company by providing his personal contacts and asking for a direct follow-up contact on all matters related with the project and its development.
