How to supercharge energy levels and brain function every morning

Monday morning, 6 AM. You wake up, furiously gulp down a coffee, and trudge to work, only to be tired a short time later. Sound familiar? With a simple drink called bulletproof coffee, mornings like these can become a distant memory.

What’s Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof coffee requires only three ingredients: brewed coffee, unsalted grass-fed butter, and coconut oil. “But why on earth would I put butter and oil in my coffee?” you may ask yourself. To start, bulletproof coffee tastes good! By blending your concoction in a high-powered blender, you get a creamy, frothy drink, the taste of which will easily rival anything at your local Starbucks.

Why does it work?

The biggest benefits of bulletproof coffee are reaped as a result of one simple entity: ketones. Ketones are substances made by the body when fat is broken down for energy (1). Therefore, increased consumption of healthy fats increases ketone production, which significantly boosts cognitive function. Your brain isn’t the only part of your body that will benefit — so will your metabolic rate. Wellness coach Jordan Bach proudly says that “one of [my clients] has lost 25 pounds since he began drinking Bulletproof coffee, and he hasn’t even started going to the gym yet.” Coupled with an already low-carbohydrate diet, the myriad healthy fats in a cup of bulletproof coffee have been shown to reverse fat accumulation in humans.

How to make it

There are a couple of approaches to making bulletproof coffee. Bach’s approach simply lists the necessary ingredients as 1 cup brewed coffee, preferably French-pressed, combined with 2 tablespoons unsalted, grass-fed butter and 2 tablespoons unrefined coconut oil. Mix thoroughly in a good blender with a little vanilla bean and cinnamon to taste, and voila, you have a creamy, delicious morning treat.
