Part 1: Garu And The Assault On The Spirit Realm
Nibiru
In a distant corner of the universe, roughly 17 dimensional hops from VIMworld, resided a civilization of great technological stature. Once a relative backwater, unremarkable compared to the myriad societies of the multiverse, this planet, Nibiru, would come to harbor the highest tier of technological society. One so advanced, it began achieving decades of scientific progress in single years. Biotechnology, artificial intelligence and advances in material sciences accelerated the evolution of society beyond the greatest expectations of the greatest minds.
The ferocious pace of their development was due to one factor alone — discovering the spirit realm. A sacred place that harbored a billion billion lifetimes of accumulated consciousness and knowledge, containing unfathomably vast stores of spirit energy. Within this place, lay all knowledge from all possible timelines; the entirety of all knowledge that ever was and ever would be.
Unfortunately for the inhabitants of Nibiru, it would not take long for corrupt forces with ill-intent to emerge. Great power inevitably drew in powerful interests with less than savory agendas. Over time, powerful mega corporations would come to develop and monopolize the planet’s resources alongside its most prized technology — the spirit energy harvesters. With abundant energy at their disposal, there was little the mega-corps couldn’t achieve, building advanced Higgs-field weaponry, developing vast militaristic forces and depriving society of the technological progress they were rightly deserving of. It would not take long for dissatisfaction to foment, anger to emerge and the rift between the haves and have-nots to spill over to boiling point.
Warring factions quickly rose up, pushing back against the oppression and those who had co-opted the rightful belongings of an entire civilization. These corrupt forces had turned a peaceful and cohesive society to a state of subjugation, degrading the environment to a pitiful remnant of its former glory as they did so. Above all others, one corporate force quickly emerged as the face and forerunner of efforts to control spirit energy tech — Ravana. Their ascent to domination was rapid, following closely on the heels of successful efforts to create a device capable of reliably prizing open the Higgs field and the spirit realm that lay just beyond.
Uprising
The Cyber Dharmapalas quickly emerged as a powerful counter-force in the wake of Ravana’s chaotic ascent, drawn together by ideology. The group consisted of a band of cybernetically augmented beings, each with potent skills and attributes, all able to channel spirit energy having reached the level of Dharmapala following a lifetime of practicing Buddhist rites.
Leading their ranks was a highly esteemed avian veteran, Garu. Capable of drawing power from both the spiritual plane as well as energy propelled explosive burst attacks from his augmented limbs. Garu was able to establish total dominance in both ground and aerial combat making him incredibly versatile when it came to offense. Following his attainment of enlightenment, Garu engraved a symbol representing ‘Buddha’ on his chest plate. With it, he gained the respect and ability to call on the Phoenii, an ancient and powerful avian species, to harness their powers in times of peril.
One fateful day, rumors of a major technological breakthrough at one of Ravana’s high security labs made their way to the Cyber Darmaphalas. It was not long before a plan was devised to infiltrate and retrieve the tech, with Garu assigned as mission lead. Upon reaching the designated area Garu was horrified to discover a small metallic device surrounded by a rippling electric field that appeared to be holding open a large rift in the spiritual realm.
“These madmen!” Garu exclaimed, “they plan to go inside?!”
He should have better contained his disgust. His exclamations immediately triggered the defenses of the large stainless steel clad lab he found himself in. Garu watched, dismayed, as serpentine battle bots with long sentient appendages began pouring out from previously closed ports on the wall…
“Dammit” were the only words he could muster before the first volley of energy bolts shot in his direction.
Instinctively, Garu took to the air, deftly flying through the ranks of his assailants, tearing at their limbs with his immense strength as he whipped by at incredible speeds, taking care to not damage the device he had been sent to reclaim. Just as the numbers of enemies seemed to be dwindling, he heard clanging noises from behind the walls once more and shortly after, the ports opened, unleashing a new wave into the lab.
“This is hopeless, there are too many!” he exclaimed, as a sense of exasperation washed over him.
Facing overwhelming odds and the sudden realization that his chances of making it out of the lab with the device intact, or even alive, were narrowing by the minute, he decided to take drastic measures...
