The Officially Definitive Guide to EGG Incubation and Companions: Second Edition- VIMworld Ascendant
Foreword:
Welcome dear reader to the “Second Edition of the Officially Definitive Guide to EGG Incubation”. We’ve come a long way since the publication of the first edition, with many Companions now having utility, and with an upgraded version of the whole EGG incubation process working on the new Ethereum Ascendant web platform as well as on our very own VIMworld Ascendant App. Whilst the fundamentals of the system haven’t changed a lot, the time is indeed ripe for a new guide! Please enjoy reading, and don’t hesitate to join in on Discord and ask questions if you still have any.
A very broad overview (TL:DR)
Boxes contain EGGs, which can be incubated by VIMs allowing them to hatch Companions. Companions bring a variety of rewards and benefits to VIMs, as well as having their own personality and scarcity. See below for a big picture overview to help you understand the whole process!
The Basics and why we hatch
Boxes contain EGGs. Each Box has a different variety of 12 different EGGs of which you will find one inside. EGGs have different quality ratings, which influence the type of Companions that they may hatch. Companions are the reward at the end of the journey.
You can buy a variety of Boxes and Box bundles from the VIMworld Store. Once you’ve bought them, they will go to your account’s My Items section (access via Dashboard). You can open your Boxes from here to find out what kind of EGG you get.
To incubate an EGG, you need to bind one Incubator, one EGG, and one VIM.
Each VIM or incubator can only bind with one EGG at a time. VIMs that are in the process of incubating can still Feed and Feast and claim rewards, but can’t do anything else, including using any proactive Companions that may be attached (passive ones will continue to work). After the incubation, all the parts are separated and you even keep the EGG in a hatched state.
Companions contain many possibilities. Every EGG has a chance to hatch a Super Companion like the Ambassador of Quan (10M $OJEE airdrop), or Companions that provide weekly $OJEE rewards. Some allow you to mint a free Box every month- literally a gift that keeps on giving: forever! Many Companions also have utilities such as increasing stats in VIMglory, allowing you to tier up VIMs faster, and speeding up the Incubation process. There are also numerous mysterious Companions with utility yet to be revealed.
Initiating the Incubation
Once you have opened your Box to get an EGG, it’s time to incubate. You will need at least one C-tier or above VIM and an Incubator (both available in Store).
To start incubating, navigate to the Dashboard, and select either EGGs or Incubators from the My Items section.
From the Incubator or EGG tab, you click “Start Incubating” to begin the process. From here, you’ll be prompted to add an Incubator, EGG and a VIM. Once everything is selected, you need to choose which currency ($ETH, $OJEE or $POWA) to pay the Incubator fuel cost in. This may come from your on-chain or off-chain wallet. When you click ‘Start Incubation’ on this page, the process will begin.
As incubations on VIMworld Ascendant are off-chain, there are no gas fees to pay to start or finish an incubation, or use your Companions. Once done, you’ll be able to see the ongoing incubation from the involved VIM, EGG, or Incubators’ page, accessed through the Dashboard or My Items. All actions involving your VIM, except Feeding, will be unavailable during Incubation. This includes linking and unlinking Companions. Be aware that Incubators each have a number of uses, and these may be refilled.
The amount of time that an incubation takes will depend on the Incubator that you use and any incubation-boosting Companions that you may have attached. See below for a comparison of the Basic Incubator and the SX-tier Incubator (the fastest). Note- you need a VIM of equal or higher tier to the Incubator you wish to use.
Boosting
If you are finding the waiting too long, and need to see your new Companion as soon as possible, then maybe it’s time to boost. When viewing your Incubation in progress, there are two boost options available- small boost and big boost. After the 50% mark of your incubation, then the big boost is no longer available. Boosting can be paid for in $POWA, $OJEE, or $ETH tokens. When viewing the incubation from the Incubator’s screen, you can also cancel your incubation in progress by clicking the three dots next to “Incubation”. This will return all NFTs to their pre-incubation state, except that a use will have been consumed from the Incubator.
Hatching
Once the incubation is over, hatching is a fun and easy process. From the Incubator, VIM, or EGG’s page, you will be prompted to hatch your EGG. Clicking this button will bring you to a screen confirming your Incubation details. Sit back and enjoy the show as your EGG hatches! Afterwards your NFTs will be returned to their normal state in your Dashboard/My Items section. Your EGG will now read ‘Hatched’ indicating that it has already hatched a Companion, but you can still keep it as a souvenir! Your new Companion will be waiting in the My Items section of your Dashboard.
Companions
Companions can be attached to your VIMs and bring many different benefits. Each VIM may attach up to 8 different Companions at a time. There are two different broad categories of Companions: proactive and passive. Proactive Companions require the user to activate their ability when they are attached to a VIM (e.g. collect a one-time OJEE reward). Passive Companions apply their benefit to the attached VIM without needing to be activated (e.g. increase incubation speed of the attached VIM). Similar to other VIMworld items, Companions can be transferred to other wallets from the My Items section. Linking and unlinking Companions with VIMs is done from a VIM’s page from Dashboard OR from the Companion’s own page in My Items. You can keep track of all the revealed Companions and their abilities in the VIMstudy.
Incubating with the VIMworld App
We’ve just released a new version of the App which now includes all Incubation and Companion features on VIMworld Ascendant. The process on the app follows the same principles as on Ascendant. We may commission a later in-depth guide for the app, but for now, check-in with our Discord or Telegram communities if you have any questions or issues.
