The Only Way To See Masjid Al Haram

The Saudi authorities have in recent years done their absolute best to pollute and ruin Mecca. If you visit and look up you can only see lines of cranes in the midst of construction or intimidating hotels overlooking the area.

It has become a place for the super rich who can book a hotel room hundreds of meters in the sky and look down on the Masjid as if they are Gods looking down on the two million people who make the journey every year.

The only way left for us to truly enjoy the beauty and peace of the region is to look back at photos from the early part of the twentieth century and before.
