Lorenzo the Magnificent’s Real Portrait
Lorenzo the Magnificent’s real portrait is rare. Yet, it’s not hard to find.
In Piazza Santa Trinita, Florence — Virtual Tour — you can visit the Santa Trinita Basilica. In the Cappella Sassetti, you’ll find a fresco — painted by Domenico Ghirlandaio — showing the black-haired Lorenzo at the right of the picture, and his sons on the stairs at the bottom of the fresco.
Piero, his elderly son and heir, is staring at you. Behind him, his brother Giovanni, who would be one day Pope Leo X.
