When someone thinks virtual reality, they often relate those words to the virtual reality headsets like the PSVR, which has been rapidly increasing in popularity. However, virtual worlds don’t only need to be for video games, or at home entertainment, there is so much more potential when it comes to virtual reality than just video games and movies. That potential could possibly be changing our future work environments also, virtually!

What Could We Do With It?

With virtual reality being in the first stages of development, there are many opportunities and ideas that are showing up in the niche for what it could possibly be used for. In a work environment virtual reality could not only save business’s a lot of time, but a lot of money as well. Once developers design more work related applications for virtual reality devices, they could become more prominent in the workplace, and they could be especially useful for more interactive communication with businesses or clients from long distances.

Virtual reality could be used in the workplace for:

  • Conference calls
  • More interactive online interviews
  • Connecting with clients
  • Training programs

The Future Of Communication

Virtual reality headsets could change the way we communicate with people from long distances, putting the two people on each end of the call in a virtual world to converse, providing a much more exciting and interactive experience. As Mirt states in a blog post from vr360.com “Managers tend to be content with conversations over Skype or Slack and think that they make real-time collaboration as real as it can get. But when VR also comes into the equation, the previously inevitable time waste is cut down drastically” (2018). Basically, saving the company money and helping to make communications between business much faster, as well as more convenient.

Training Made Better

With new apps being made for virtual reality everyday, there is a chance that more and more job training apps will become available for companies to use with their employees. These applications could simulate real world situations that would happen on the job, making it easier and faster to teach employees new things. As Mirt states in the blog post on vr360.com “by using VR during the training of new hires, you can also help them have much more realistic expectations about the job they will perform. This reduces the time of adjustment and transition to the role, making them to be much more productive in the long run” (2018). Meaning that these simulated worlds on the virtual reality headsets will be able to adapt employees to new situations they may encounter, quicker and more efficiently. Also it is much easier for people to remember things through a whole experience rather than just a training video, making virtual reality an ideal candidate.

The work place is constantly changing and evolving with technology as time moves forward. Only imagination could tell what gadgets the future may bring that will change our work environments for the better! As of now virtual reality has been taking big strides to be more than just a hobby for those who play video games. Virtual reality could possibly be seen at your own work place in a couple of years!
